WIEE began its operations in Romania in 1993 with sales to the fertiliser and steel industries. Back then barter deals were still common practice. WIEE developed business models with western companies like Transammonia and Ferrostaal to secure gas supplies and payments for the mutual benefit of all partners. However, since then the entire gas market and the gas consumer industry have experienced an extended restructuring process. As a result, WIEE now concentrates more on larger scale customers such as Termoelectrica, Electrocentrale Bucharest, E.ON Gaz Romania and GDF Suez Energy Romania. In addition, Romgaz has also recently become a strategic customer of WIEE. Together with these partners, WIEE is working on business models to develop the natural gas market in general and especially to enhance the security of natural gas supplies.
