Natural gas sales to Bulgaria started with the foundation of WIEE in 1993. Since 1997, the contractual relationship with Bulgargaz has been based on a long-term gas sales agreement. Since starting its gas marketing activities, WIEE has delivered more then 6 billion cubic metres to Bulgaria, which is equivalent to more than 30% of all commercial natural gas imports to Bulgaria.
In August 2005, WIEE acquired 51% of DEXIA Bulgaria EOOD (DEXIA), a domestic natural gas trading company. DEXIA purchases gas from Bulgarian producers and sells it within the industrial sector. The activities of DEXIA are an ideal complement to the already established activities of WIEE on the Bulgarian market and provide a good basis for investments in natural gas-related infrastructure projects.
