Projects in Romania
WIEE has been continuously working on identifying projects to develop the natural gas sector in Romania – for example, in the areas of gas transportation, storage and distribution.

The activities of WIROM Gas in Turnu Magurele, Alexandria, Oltenita and Giurgiu are a good example of how WIEE is pursuing its strategy of developing the Romanian gas market as a reliable and competent partner.

In 2004 the Romanian Ministry of Economy and Commerce approached WIEE asking it to examine the possibility of a potential cross-border pipeline between the Ukraine and Romania in the region of Suceava. A corresponding agreement between the involved parties in Romania was signed in August 2004. Since then a feasibility study has been prepared and good progress has been achieved in the discussions between Transgaz, Naftogaz of Ukraine and WIEE.

Another cross-border pipeline project has been identified at the border between Bulgaria and Romania. Here, there is an opportunity of connecting the two cities of Ruse (Bulgaria) and Giurgiu (Romania) by a pipeline crossing below the river Danube. WIEE initiated a feasibility study at the start of 2005 in close collaboration with Transgaz and Bulgargaz.
